Contemporary Family House

This project involves the construction of a contemporary house in Saint-Benoît, designed for a couple with two children. Located on a plot where a significant portion is non-buildable, the house is organised vertically over four levels, including a basement. This strategy limits the building’s footprint while preserving as much as possible of the natural qualities of the site.

This vertical organisation allows for a clear distribution of uses, between technical spaces, living areas, bedrooms and outdoor spaces. It also enables the project to respond to the constraints of the site, while offering a functional, bright house that is open to its surroundings.

The architecture is based on a contemporary, sober and legible language. The main volume, deliberately minimal, is animated by a large opening towards the garden and by a first-floor terrace, which forms a protective canopy for the ground floor. This terrace also supports a timber structure acting as an active sun-shading device in front of the openings on the upper floor. This system helps limit thermal variations during the summer months, while adding depth and rhythm to the façade.

The addition of this timber structure completes the main architecture and creates a dialogue with the surrounding landscape. It also brings a warmer dimension to the overall composition, contrasting with the sobriety of the built volume.

On the ground floor, the living spaces open generously onto the garden through a large corner bay window. This opening creates a natural continuity between the interior, the terrace, the swimming pool and the landscape. It brings abundant natural light into the living room and strengthens the daily connection between the house and the outdoors.

On the first floor, the terrace extends the spaces of the house and offers a privileged relationship with the garden and distant views. Conceived as a breathing space, it forms an elevated outdoor extension of the home, suited to family life and moments of relaxation.

The project also integrates an environmental approach through a natural wastewater treatment system on the plot. Treatment by natural filtration helps limit the impact of the construction on its environment and places the house within a more sustainable logic.
