Bespoke Furniture — In|Out Apartment
For the interior design project of the In|Out Apartment, NODA studio designed a complete range of custom plywood furniture. Conceived as a direct extension of the interior architecture, these pieces support everyday uses while maintaining a simple and legible construction logic. The collection includes several complementary elements: high stools, a desk, a mobile desk storage unit, a multifunctional tatami platform, and a large cabinet integrating a dedicated space for cats.
The high stools were designed to fit naturally with the kitchen island. Each stool is composed of three main pieces, with a round seat and an integrated footrest surface. Their simple assembly allows them to be easily dismantled if needed.
The desk was custom-designed to respond to the constraints of the room, including an irregular wall and the presence of a structural element of the building. Measuring 2.40 m in length, it rests on two legs at each end and a single central leg. A wooden structure placed beneath the tabletop ensures the rigidity of the whole piece and keeps the surface perfectly stable.
Under the desk, a small mobile storage unit on wheels completes the workspace. This compact piece is composed of three vertical compartments that fit together and can be detached individually, allowing each section to be carried separately if needed. It also includes a vertical slot storage system, designed to efficiently hold two laptops.
The tatami acts as a multifunctional platform. Its structure allows several internal storage compartments to be organised and accessed from above. A large drawer occupies half of its length, while a sliding lateral extension makes it possible to enlarge the surface to reach the dimensions of a standard double bed. The tatami can therefore accommodate a mattress and become a genuine sleeping area.
Finally, a large custom-made cabinet integrates a dedicated volume for cats. Its perforated doors ensure good ventilation and provide the animals with several circular openings through which they can move, observe, or simply place their heads. A latch locking system prevents the cats from opening the cabinet doors by themselves. Inside, several levels create a vertical route similar to a cat tree: a lower area for the litter box, a level for food, followed by different platforms equipped with scratching surfaces and cushions.
Through this range, NODA proposes functional, demountable furniture precisely adapted to the uses of the apartment, while highlighting the simplicity of plywood, the clarity of the assemblies, and the versatility of the living spaces.
