Extension of a Country House in Nouvelle-Aquitaine

This project focuses on the creation of a contemporary extension for a historic residence located in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The intervention seeks to enlarge the existing house while respecting its rural and heritage character. The aim was to design a modern, bright and functional volume, capable of engaging with the spirit of a country house without trying to imitate it.

The extension accommodates several essential everyday uses. It becomes the new dining room, the main entrance to the house, and a plant-filled space designed to host numerous indoor plants. Conceived as a living area open to the garden, it offers a pleasant space to use throughout the day and in every season.

The project is based on a reflection on the perception of volume. The repetition of vertical lines, present both inside and outside, visually extends the extension towards the garden. This framework creates a sense of elongation, as if the interior space continued beyond the glazed façades.

The vertical wooden elements also play both a structural and environmental role. In addition to supporting the extension, they filter natural light and break up direct sunlight, particularly in the late morning and afternoon. This regular rhythm provides gentle solar protection while maintaining a strong relationship with the surrounding landscape.
